Microsoft Azure Service Bus (SBMP) retirement: action required before 30 September 2026

Microsoft is ending support for the legacy Service Bus Messaging Protocol (SBMP) on 30 September 2026. This change affects customers using Spindle Purchase Invoice Recognition (SPIR) with versions of Spindle Document Management earlier than v11.

Affected customers need to take action before the deadline to avoid disruption to purchase invoice processing.

Who is affected?

The change affects all SPIR customers running Spindle Document Management earlier than v11.

Customers already using Spindle Document Management v11 are not affected, as this version uses the supported AMQP 1.0 protocol.

Customers running a version of Spindle Document Management earlier than v10.5 will need to upgrade to v11, as the SPIR Service Bus patch cannot be applied to these versions.

What happens after 30 September?

If no action is taken, we expect SPIR messaging to fail at affected sites from 30 September 2026.

This could mean documents in the Document Portal no longer change status, while documents may also fail to post into Sage 200 or archive into Spindle Document Management.

The retirement date is set by Microsoft and cannot be extended, so we encourage affected customers to arrange the necessary work ahead of the deadline.

What do customers need to do?

There are two options available:

Apply the SPIR Service Bus patch
Customers running a compatible version can apply the SPIR Service Bus patch themselves or arrange for Draycir to assist.

Upgrade to Spindle Document Management v11
Customers can upgrade to v11, which already uses the supported AMQP 1.0 protocol. An upgrade is required for customers running a version earlier than v10.5.

Draycir will be contacting affected customers directly to make sure they are aware of the deadline and to help them with the appropriate option.
